first toy society drop

have you heard about the toy society? started as essentially a street art project in australia, it aims to spread the handmade love through plush toys dropped off in public locations by their makers and left for strangers to find. this idea is definitely something i've thought of doing in the past, but now i'm really inspired to participate. i hadn't made any softies in over a year, and had been wanting to get back into it again....this seems like just the way to jump back in.

i sat down for a little while with some wool leftover from altering a thrift store skirt, and this little whale is what i came up with.
my goal was something gender-neutral, and somethingy from the natural world. i guess this little one is quite a bit cartoony, but still cute. the eyes and mouth are embroidered on to make sure its entirely child-safe. hopefully whoever finds her will love her.

here's another picture for scale:

i'm not reallysure where i'll drop her yet, i've got her all packaged up to carry with me to work tomorrow, and surely a place will present itself at some point during my day. i plan to make at least 1 toy drop each month, but we'll see how it goes.

  4. that is so adorable. and a kid's toy probably SHOULD be rather cartoon-y and nonsensical in nature. that's why kid's toys are fun
