maybe, finally, a quilt for me?

much like the cobbler's children run around barefoot, i have never made a quilt for my own bed. i have made 6 bed-sized quilts, and many crib quilts and quilted things, but i can never seem to do one for me. maybe its because i can never choose which fabrics are my very favorite, or which pattern is perfect for me...honestly, it must be about thriving on having to complete something by the deadline; about loving every bit of the procrastinating.

but, its high time i just jump in and start piecing a top.

i recently got some of this amazingly beautiful mushroom fabric from parasol co. that has the best red amanitas. it is quilting weight, but has a wonderfully soft hand and seems to drape really well. i immediately envisioned an entire mushroom dress, but figured that was a bit much...the same day it arrived, i found this lovely quilt made by twin fibers that she made as a baby quilt:

i plan on making a queen-size quilt for my bed, using this lattice design as inspiration (although i'm sure i'll construct it differently, you should go check out her notes about piecing, its an interesting technique). i will use the mushrooms as the focus fabric inside the 'frames', and then a tan that matches the tan in the mushroom print as the background, and a dark brown patterned fabric as the latticing. i am beyond excited about this idea, but i need to complete another queen size quilt for my mom first. more on that in another post.

  1. Love that quilt design and I think your color choices are great for that mushroom fabric! Can't wait to see the final!
